The Joseph Maffeo Foundation
The Joseph Maffeo Foundation stands with Kids Against Cancer (KAC) to embrace the necessary changes needed to expand services for the pediatric oncology patients of our community. The creation of the new state-of-the-art outpatient infusion suite and treatment center for children with cancer and blood related disorders will double the capacity and allow for more outpatient chemotherapy treatments instead of hospitalization. The new center is envisioned as a place where children can be treated close to home but yet far removed from their disease. The new facility will not only offer a safe environment but a child friendly atmosphere. Some features include a one-wall fish tank, running waterfall with teen’s corner, interactive video and IT wall with touch-on screens, as well as a exposition of fluttering butterflies. “We hope one day to free all children from cancer . . . much work is being done to achieve this ultimate goal,” said Michael Grillo, founder of Kids Against Cancer. “The most we can do is love them and teach them how to turn their sorrow into hope and their fears into laughter. If we can instill a healthy attitude during a time of illness, we can give them the power to overcome this disease. After all, they are our future,” Positive thinking can bear a great deal of power. Unfortunately, it isn’t the cure to cancer, but hopefully it can lift the spirits of children. The concept of the center is based on healing from the outside in, welcoming a cheerful and healthy attitude.
