The expansion and renovation of the Florina Rusi-Marke Comprehensive Breast Center (CBC) is underway! What once was a dream has nearly become reality. With much excitement and support from the community, the mission to provide the best comprehensive care is able to be achieved. The latest and most sophisticated Advanced Imaging, Surgical & Reconstructive Techniques, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Genetic Counseling are all available at the Center. The center has the new 3D mammography machine that will increase detection of breast cancers, leading to faster treatment and recovery.
The renovation will not only increase the program’s clinical integration, but its personal touch as well. The facilities new contemporary environment will have dedicated spaces for holistic therapies such as yoga, Reiki, massage therapy, and meditation to maximize health and positive spirit. A Wellness Boutique, sponsored by the SIUH Service Auxiliary, will offer access to symptom-easing products, custom wigs, mastectomy bras, and special toiletries to help patients cope with the side effects of their treatments.
A dedicated Library and Conference room will provide space for everything from breast cancer support groups to nutrition seminars, and iPads for entertainment and personal in-depth research. Nurse Navigator will be available every step of the way.
“The CBC’s future is not only focused on its short-term expansion, but on all patients’ long-term health. By conducting research, collecting data and submitting findings for peer review with clinicians around the world, the CBC will help in developing new treatments and therapies for breast cancer,” said Dr. Coomer.
